The letters GPS stands for Global Positioning System which refers to a system of satellites and receivers that allow people and devices to pinpoint their exact location on the Earth. Devices that are equipped with GPS equipment receive transmissions from at least a few of the satellites which enable it to discern very precise positioning data. There are different types of GPS accessories that are designed for different kinds of GPS devices.

Some GPS accessories may include the portable friction mount which is designed to keep your GPS device in its proper place. It will keep your GPS device in plain sight when you need it and out of the way when you don’t. You can place this mount on any stable surface and adjust your GPS device to your liking. More and more people are seeing the advantages of a navigation system. It’s no longer a cool toy. Well, actually it is. It is a cool toy but a necessary one. Soon, I think, it will be a standard car accessory for all cars as the spare tire. The only issue when it comes to GPS units is what model and where in the dash to put it. To hold the unit in place you’ll need GPS dash mounts.

There are lots of GPS dash mounts in the market today. Make sure the mount you get is compatible with your dashboard. If not, you’ll have to do some modifications which may or may not work. When getting one, already have a place where you plan to put the mount. Chose a place in your dash board that is easy to see but won’t disrupt or distract you when drive.

gps-charger

Outdoors enthusiasts with a serious sense of adventure will want to investigate the sport of orienteering. This pastime tests a person’s ability to navigate using rudimentary maps and a compass. Most orienteering competitions take place in heavily wooded areas, which makes navigation especially challenging. In a few isolated cases, people have become lost for extended periods of time while orienteering; that risk shouldn’t prevent people from giving it a try, however.

Depending on the rules of a specific orienteering contest, GPS devices may be brought along in case of emergency. These devices should be charged well ahead of their use in the woods, as every added moment could count. Keep a GPS charger handy, and allow your device to fully charge before packing it for the orienteering session.
