Global positioning system tracking is the use of satellites together with a GPS device to track the location of a person or object on or near the surface of the earth. GPS tracking using a GPS locator requires the use of four or more satellites in a medium orbit around the earth to calculate the position of a tracking device within a relatively accurate degree of proximity. A GPS locator can take a variety of forms and serve several different functions, but the overall process being used is mostly similar.

GPS tracking will also allow a person to determine his or her own location in the event of becoming lost or disoriented while hiking or traveling. These tracking devices have been used for some time on vehicles and on other important or valuable items to help locate them in case of theft or loss. GPS tracking devices are also used for nature research to help in the tracking and locating of the position and movement of wild animals as well as to determine migratory patterns for mating and birthing of these animals.

Keeping Tabs on a Teenage Daughter

As much as I’d like to trust my daughter, I remember the way I behaved as a teenager. Parents were seen as the enemies, or at least the people who should be misled and left in the dark as much as possible. Now that she’s 17 and driving an old used car of her own, I’ve taken steps to ensure that she isn’t out carousing into the wee hours on a school night.

I let her know right up front that the car would be outfitted with a device allowing for GPS vehicle tracking. It would give me the ability to check on the location of the car at any given time, so I would know if she deviated from her schedule, skipped school, and so on. She didn’t take too kindly to the new plan, but I’m making sure that honesty is foremost on our agenda.
