Ever since buying my first Harley-Davidson a few years ago, Iâve dreamed of the day I could set out across the country with the open road as my only limitation. Thereâs something primal and romantic about leaving home for a few weeks at a time without any particular destination in mind. Iâve decided that I wonât create an itinerary; Iâll base my travel plans on the people I meet along the way.
Preparing for the trip took some time, of course. I wouldnât embark on a serious road trip without doing some logistical homework. First was the matter of budgeting for gas and attaching some large saddlebags to my hog. Then I went online and bought a Magellan motorcycle GPS â itâs just the sort of thing Iâll need to negotiate the back roads of the American Southwest.
